CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
SAMOAN BANANA DUTY. "There is something radically wrong, and it wants looking into," said Mr. M. Stewart, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, yesterday, with reference to the duty recently imposed on Samoan bananas. "It is direct intei ference with private business," he added. Tho matter was referred to the imports committee. With a view to promoting closer cooperation it was decided to offer to the president of the Onchunga ( hamber of Commerce honorary membership of the Auckland Chamber and council. Notice was received from the registrar of the Auckland University College that, the winners of tho chamber's scholarships were Miss F. M. Gray, Mount Eden, and Mr. S. G. Bell, Epsom. Mr. C. 1". Bennett reported that 22 resignations had been received, as compared with 19 in the previous year.
