UNPAID WORKERS.
PROTEST TO MINISTER.
NO WAGES FOR FORTNIGHT
"INHUMAN AND INDEFENSIBLE."
[BY TEI.EGRAPU. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Thursday.
The fact'that 20. men employed in terracing the grounds surrounding the new courthouse have not received payment for their services caused a deputation representing the men to wait on the Mayor, Mr. .J. R. Fow, this morning. The men stated that they had been working on the job for a fortnight, and as they had been previously unemployed they needed the money. At the instance of the Mayor Mr. J. A. Young, M.P., telegraphed to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Taverlier, and protested against the action of the department, which employed the men, in holding up their wages. The men had been informed that 110 wages would be payable to them until tlio first Monday in February. " For the Government to hold up wagos due to destitute families for nearly a month is, to say the least, inhuman and indefensible," wired Mr. Young. lie suggested that the Minister should make money immediately available to the men.
