MOUNT ALBERT RATING.

RATEPAYERS SEEK CHANGE. A POLL NEXT MONTH. An attempt is being made in the Borough of Mount Albert to abolish tho system of rating on unimproved values, now obtaining, and a poll is to be taken on this question on February 11. Tho town clerk, Mr. H. Utting, said yesterday that he had received a petition, containing the number of signatures required by law, lequesting that a poll should bo held on tho question of rescinding the resolution authorising rating on unimproved values, and arrangements had been made accordingly. If the poll is carried by the ratepayers the borough will have to revert to the method of rating in operation before the advent of the present system. This is a statutory regulation, and in the case of Mount Albert tho borough would have to revert to the system of rating on capital value. However, there is provision for a further change, if necessary, after 12 months.
