FIRE ON A STEAMER.
LOSS OF THE TRICOLOR.
CARGO OF EXPLOSIVES. SURVIVORS AT SINGAPORE. By Telegraph—PreßS Association—Copyright. (Receivod January 7, 11.45 p.m.) COLOMBO, Jan. 7. The Norwegian steamer Tricolor, which was blown up 40 miles south of Colombo, carried a cargo of explosives. The survivors were taken by the Porthos to Singapore.
The Tricolor came to grief on Monday afternoon, and sank within five minutes of the last explosion, after an outbreak of fire.
The exact locality of the disaster was nine miles south-west of the Barbaryn lighthouse. Six persons are dead and two others injured. Tho dead include the master, Captain Hoist, the third officer, Mr. Batalden, the radio operator, Mr. Doxrud, a passenger, Mr. Solburg, a sailor and a motorman. The Porthos picked up 42 persons. Several of the explosions were heard on land.
