DIRECTOR IN BRITAIN. , A LIKELY APPOINTMENT. (Received Jnnuiry 2, 30.45 p.m.) LONDON. Jan. 2. The Daily Herald says the late Sir Befton Brancker's successor as Director of Civil Aviation will bo LieutenantColonel Francis Shelrnerdine, Director of Civil Aviation in India since 1927, who has unrivalled knowledge of the Empire s Cirways. Sir Sefton Brancker was killed in the tvreck of the airship RlOl. LieutenantColonel Francis Claude Shelmeidine was born in 1881. and educated at Rugby and Sandhurst. He joined the Army m India in 1901, and served in the Great v\ ar and was attached to the Royal Flying Corps.
