SCHNEIDER CUP RACE.
CONTEST IN SEPTEMBER. _ \'\ * TWO CHALLENGES RECEIVED. (Received January 1, 10.15 p.m.) British "Wireless. RUGBY, Dec. 81. The Royal Aero Club has received' from the Royal Aero Club of Italy official confirmation of the entry of threu seaplanes for the Schneider Cup race. This represents a challenge to Britain as the holder of the cup end renders certain a contest in British waters next September. The entries were accompanied, as required by the regulations, by a deposit of 500 francs for each competing seaplane, and the bank is guarantee for 600,000 francs. The Royal Aero Clulb later received an entry on behalf of France of three seaplanes for the race.
Britain holds the trophy, having captured it from Italy in 1927 and held it in 1929 against the only competitor, Italy. If Britain wins the coming race, for which France and Italy are challengers, she will secure the trophy outright. The aeronautical correspondent of the Times says the Royal Aero Club, which will defend the Schneider Cup on behall of Britain, is faced with the difficulty of raising a team of civilian pilots, end wishes to add an extra seaplane to those which contested the trophy in 1929. These will not run at full speed, because the cooling surfaces are inadequate. The Paris correspondent of the Time« says the French Air Ministry has appointed three pilots, MM. Amanrich, Domougeot and Boncaut, to begin training for the Schneider Cup race. All are young in the service, and are well fitted to undergo the severe physical strain of the contest.
