UNEMPLOYED ON FARMS.
POSITION AT TE AROHA. DIFFICULTIES OF COMMITTEE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.* TE AHOHA, Wednesday. While placing numerous unemployed men on farms in accordance with the subsidised farm labour scheme of the Unemployment Board, the Mayor of To Aroha, Mr. R. Coulter, who is chairman of the local unemployment committee, complained to-dav of the last-minute rush / to register by persons out of work. Although the farmers had responded well, said Mr. Coulter, the unemployment. committee had to exercisu the discretion allowed it and place applicant? only where the work was deemed a necessity. At the time of the Government subsidy being made available only 10 men were registered as being unemployed, yet since then work had been found for 50 men, who said they were out of employment but had not registered. An awkward situation arose through the belated arrival of papers which had to be tilled in when a man vvsts given a position. As the board was responsible for the late arrival of the papers, it was expectod that it would sanction payment for work done without strict compliance with the formalities.
