RACING CAR CAPSIZES.
MECHANIC SERIOUSLY HURT
DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY.
SPEED OF 80 MILES AN HOUR.

A motor mechanic, Mr. William Simmonds, aged 21, of Church Street East, Onehunga, was seriously injured, and a companion had a narrow escape from injury, when a racing car travelling at 80 miles an hour capsized at Henmng's Speedway, Mangere, about six o'clock last evening. The injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he underwent an operation. His condition last evening was very serious. Mr. Simmonds' companion was driving the car, which was undergoing trial tests. After rounding a bend at a terrific speed the car somersaulted twice and came to rest upside down. Mr. Simmonds was pinned under the car and was extricated with difficulty. His companion was thrown clear and escaped with minor bruises and shock. The car, which is owned by Mr. D. C. S. Sutherland, of Onehunga, was extensively damaged.
