POST-PRIMARY COURSE.
NEW OTAHUHU SCHOOL.
DECISION OF GOVERNMENT. Advico that junior pupils in the Otahuhu district would have to attend the new Otahuhu post-primary school, and thus relieve the attendance at the Seddon Memorial Technical College was received in a letter from the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, at a meeting of the Board of Managers of the college yesterday. The letter was in reply to a question from the board as to how the new school would affect the college. The Minister also stated that, if the demand existed, evening classes might bo commenced at the Otahuhu School. The chairman, Mr. H. S. W. King, said the board was being told to refuse to take junior free place pupils from Otahuhu. It meant that children had to attdnd schools chosen by the Government, and not by parents. The principal of the college, Mr. G. J. Park, said pupils in Otahuhu wishing to attend special classes, such as engineering, would be handicapped. It was decided to ask the Minister if provision would be made for pupils wishing to take special courses, and whether agricultural students could obtain practical training at the new school.
