The weather for training operations at Trentliam this morning was cold and overcast with a threat of rain, but otherwise trainers had nothing to complain of. the tracks baing in first-class order. All the fast work was'done on the No. 1 crass and after a auiet spell, owing to the New Zenland Cup Meeting. proceedings up again.

Open Cheque save Taura Lad a start and ft four lengths beating Quite easily over four furlongs in GOs. Open Cheque nhould win races on the way ho gallops on the tracks. He will be ridden by K. Voitie at Levin on Saturday.

Hunting Call was belter than Mythology over five in 1.3 4-5. the last half in 50 4-53. Hunting Call was doing it well all the way and the tinie was good. Malayan and Tea Queen run six in the smart time of 1.16 1-5. the last half in 51s. Both did it well. Malayan looks in firstclass shape. He will be ridden at Levin by S. Wilson. Tea Queen may not fulfil her engagement. Saltpot and Joie de Val took 1.18 1-5 for six furlongs, but they were not doing their best by any means until tho last two furlongs, up to which stage thev had just loped along. Both went nicely Joio de Val will be ridden in the Maiden at Levin by H. Gray. _ Concentrate and Gesture. Concentrate, who was unable to Btart in the Metropolitan Handicap at Riccarton on Saturday owing to slight soreness, antf the risk attached to a hard track, was out on tho tan doing pace-work with Gesture. Except' for moving a trifle scratchilv Concentrate looks well, and Gesture has come to no harm by her races in the Stewards' Handicap and tiio Oaks. Gold Sand sprinted without being timed, and Acis and Prefect, sent to do threequarter pace-work, ran five in 1.61. the lust half in 525, with Acis battling for hia head. Limosin was out doing pace-work on the tan. Ho looks in excellent order but bo far it is not definite whether he will start at Levy), although he will attend the meeting with Auckland Gas and Dignified March. The latter pair look well and sprinted satisfactorily yesterday morning. No riders have been engaged as yet for their Levin engagements. Rothven and Valrewa ran five in 1.5. the last half in 50 l-ss. Valrewa appeared to be doing it better. She has been leased by her trainer, J. McLaughlin, and will carry his colours at Levin. First Money put great dr.sh into nacework on the tan. The disappointing PaDor Money gelding goes well enough on the tracks to win any sprint race in the country. H, Gray will rido him at L«vin. where the turning track should suit him. An Attractive Two-year-old. General Assembly and the Roger De Busli two-year-old Sir Roger sprinted three furlongs in 375. The youngster is a eoodlooking colt and moves well. White Doe and Lady Rene ran four in 51s, both going nicely. S. Gerrand will ride White Doe at Levin. Oral and Oratorian snrinted twice down the straight, and Zephyrus worked over six furlongs. Crash and Peep began at tho six furlongs and after Peen had pulled off in the straight Crash finished in 1.19 J. Kiriaba pleased better than Half Acre at the end of seven in 1.311. the last half in 53 l-ss. Half Acre, who is variously described in race books as a mare and a colt, is a gelding. . Black Mint began slowly against Ramescs and Dainty Ways at the mile post, but was only a length behind Dainty Ways at the finish in 1.46 2-5. Rameses was pulled off in the straight. The last half took 53 l-5s and the effort of Dainty Ways was a good one. She is in the principal race at Levin on Saturday. Acorn, a good-looking two-year-old sister to Don Quixote, was exercised on the two-year-old track by J. McLaughlin. S. Reid did similar work with Forestry, ft colt by Limond from Forest Girl.
