MR. L. J. WATKIN TO RETIRE.

FORTY YEARS' SERVICE ENDS

Mr. Len. J. Watkin, lecturer in art at the Wellington Teachers' Training College, will retire at tho end of January after 40 years' service in tho Education Department. Born in New Zealand, Mr. Watkin commenced his service as a teacher. After 10 years ho took up art work, subsequently establishing tho art and technical collego at Pal(nerston North. Six years later he went to London and obtained an art master's degree at South Kensington. He served as art master in several London schools.

Returning to New Zealand, ho became supervisor of art instruction in the Wanganui education district. He was responsible for many illuminated addresses, including one to the King and several to the Prince of Wales.
