LONDON PRESS COMMENT.
A WASTED CONFERENCE. LABOUR'S LACK OF POLICY. OUTSPOKEN CRITICISM. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received November 17, 12.15 a.m.) Times Cable. LONDON, Nov. IC. •The Times says the failure of the Imperial Conference to achievo any concrete result primarily was due to the fact that tho" Government drifted into it without any clear policy and without anything like the the preparation needed, Tho Daily Express says the humiliation of this wasted conference is the last victory of the free importers. It will only he a matter of months when tho country will sweep them aside with anger and contempt. The News-Chronicle says there never was the faintest chance of the present Government acquiescing in the principle of taxing food or raw materials and thus committing the nation to a disastrous fiscal levolution.
The Sunday Times says tho conference broke up in an atmosphere of defeat and disappointment. Its record is one of nullity and of deferment. This Government must certainly go down in history as the most incompetent of the century.
