EX-SERVICEMEN MEET.
BIRKENHEAD REUNION. ' A most enjoyable reunion was held in the Buffalo Halll, Birkenhead, on Saturday evening under the auspices of tlm Birkenhead Ex-Servicemen's Association. The president, Dr. J. W. Craven, who presided, explained that from small beginnings 12 years ago, an- annual gathering of the returned soldiers of the district had been held. This had led to the formation recently of the association,, the immediate purpose of which was to assist in the employment of the local ex-service-men, funds being raised by various social functions.
The toast by Mr. W. Garrett of I alien Comrades " was honoured in silence. Responding to the toast of Tsavy, Mercantile Marine and Imperial Forces," proposed by Mr. F. Tothill, Commander H. L. Morgan gave instances of the fine spirit of the crews of the British trawlers, and related several humorous anecdotes connected with war service in the navy. Major R. Miles gave an interesting account of his tour in 1924 over the battlefields of Belgium and France. " The Birkenhead Bor&ugh Council," proposed by Mr, J.. W. Canty, was replied to by Mr. A. G. Jasper. He stated that tho unemployment loan had not yet been raised, and until relief cotild be afforded by this ijixpenditure, it was desirable that donations should be applied for the immediate absorption of nneinployed men.
