ALMS BOX BROKEN OPEN. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "WEtAXGAREI. Friday. A would-be thief or thieves broke open the alms box at Christ Church, Whangarei, yesterday or on Wednesday night, but obtained nothing. Ihe vicar, Rev. H. T. Steele, discovered yesterday afternoon that tho box had been broken. A small padlock had been prised with ft chisel or some other sharp instrument, but the box was.empty at the time. This is the second occasion upon which an attempt has been made to rob the box.
