amalgamation of areas. POSITION OF PROPOSAL, TET TSLZGP-.AFH. —OWN COB RESPONDENT. 1 ] TE AROEA. Thursday. The first meeting of th? newly-elected Waitoa Drainage Board was held to-day. The personnel of the board :s;—Messrs. D. F'. Watson, E. Palliser, H. L. Wilton, A. J. Luxton and H. A. .Wagstaff. Mr. Watson was unanimously elected chairman. The Department of Internal Affairs notified the hoard that the question of the amalgamation of the Hungahunga, Waitoa, Elstow and Tahuria draiiage districts had been provided for in section 56 of the Local Legislation Act, 1930. Tho question of the appointment of a commission to consider further the petition of the Waitoa Drainage Board fnr the union of these four districts would receive early consideration and the board would be communicated with at a later date. The proposed drainage scheme for the central area, to cost £6OOO, was discussed. A few settlers who would not benefit to a great extent by the scheme, said Mr. H. A. Wagstaff, wanted their sections to lie left out, of the rating area. Mr. Gibbs, the engineer, said that indirectly all land in the area, would benefit. Tho classification would deal equitably with the claims of the objectors. The Government subsidy was obtained on the understanding that .11,000 acres would be given relief by (he new drainage scheme. Tho original scheme was left to stand.
