CHARGE OF BOOKMAKING.
ARREST AT WELLINGTON.
FINE OF £2OO IMPOSED

After he had been arrested at noon to-day, George Frederick Lenev, aged .38, was this afternoon fined £2OO by Mr. E. Page, S.M., on a chargo of carrying on business as a bookmaker.
Detective-Sergeant Holmes said accused had been carrying on business in a substantial way. Two betting books found on him contained about 150 and 100 entries respectively. They mostly related to bets on races at Christchurcli on Saturday, and ranged from 5s to JCI. Tho Magistrate: You have had two previous convictions for keeping a common gaming house and the fine 1 now have to impose will have to be fairly substatial.
Defendant was given until December 3 to find the money. Default was fixed at six months' imprisonment.
