AUCKLAND GUN CLUB.

SPORTING ACTION OF WINNER.

There was a fair attendance of members at Pakuranga yesterday, when the Auckland Gun Club held its fortnightly shoot. Conditions were good and some excellont shooting resulted, a pleasing featuro being the return to form of a number of shooters. The first ton birds match resulted in a tio between R. 11. Bartlev (13yds), L. Peterson (15yds) and G. H. Brown (ICyds). with tho possiblo. Tho chief match. for Mr. R. H. Bartley s trophy, produced an exciting contest. A. E Macredie. C. E. Hodge, and G. H. Brown, ail off 17yds, ticinu with tho possiblo of 15. F. H. Seccombo (17yds) secured 14. E. J. Schofiold (15yds). J. Milne (14vds) and D. Hyauiason (13yds), each secured 13. whilst there were several with I'2. Tho lowest Rcore being 10. Tho throe first-named divided tho stakes nnd shot off for the trophy. Each man shot up to the 28th bird without a miss, when it was agreed to co back a yard each shot. Brown, unfortunately, omitted to place a cartridgo in his right barrel and retired on tho 20th bird off 10yds. Hodgo missed the 32nd bird off 22yds, Mncredio getting his bird. Macredie then sportingly insisted upon Brown resuming on the mark he was retired on. Brown shot his birds back to 22yds, hut was beaten by Macredie on tho 33rd bird of! 23vds. In presenting tho trophy Mr. Bartlev referred in a very happy manner to the snorting finish which hnd resulted for his trophy. He strongly eulogised tho good spirit shown by tho winner, which was characteristic of tho members of tho club. Cheers were given for the winner and the donor. Tho final ten-bird match producod another great, exhibition of shooting and resulted in C. E. Hodgo (18yds). F. 11. Seccombe (17yds), E. J. Schofiold (15yds) nnd R. 11. Bartley (14yds) tieimr with tho possible. They shot off for tho Rtake, going back a yard each shot, Schofield missing tho 16tb bird off 22yds, Bn rtley the 18th off 22vds. Hodgn tho 18th off 2(>yds, Seccombo getting tho 18t.h off 25yds and winning. This was excellent, shooling on tho part of tho four, being yards behind their ordinary marks, Tho club will bo represented at Morrinsvillo by a very strong team in the comnetition to bo held on November 22 for tho Beid Cup. The next olub shoot will be held on Saturday. December 6. when Mr, P. KayStratton'n trophy will bo competed for.
