THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. QUIETER TONE EXISTS, The market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday opened practically on the previous day's levels, but a weakor tone became evident as the day pro- | eressed. The margin between buyers and I sellers of Australian stocks widened, and J most of tho business was in securities | with head* offices in New Zealand. In the banking group Commercials of Australia were active on a steady market, which weakened slightly toward tho close. English, Scottish and Australian sold during tho day at £5 16s, but weakened at tho closing call to sell at £5 1.3s 6d. New Zealands held very firm. Unions lost 2s to sell ut £9 17s. No business was recorded in the insurance section, but buyers' quotations were mostly firmly maintained. A buyer appeared at the mid-day call at 21s for Goldsbrough-Morts, but sellers at the current price of 22s 6d were not supported at the close. Wellington Investment Trust saw tho first sale since August. New Zealand Breweries were very firm at late rates. Tho miscellaneous section was a little erratic. Australian stocks were mostly weak, but the majority of NeW Zealand shares held late quotations. British Tobaccos, which were sold on Thursday at from 37s down to 34s lid, wero offered at 34s at tho closing call without drawing buyers. Australian Glass had buyers at ,24s 6d, compared with sales the pre vious day at 26s sd. Colonial Sugars held very firm. Farmers' Trading changed hands at 6s 9d, compared with tho last salo at 7s 3d. Kempthorno-Prossers gained 4s on their last sale, early in October, to sell at 61s 6d. Milburn Lime ans Cements sold at 29s 3d, compared with 29s 6d in Dunedin the previous day.
