FANCY-DRESS BALL.
FUNCTION AT MANUREWA. Over 100 children participated in a plain and fancy dress ball held in the Manuvewa Theatre on Wednesday in aid of the local Anglican Church funds. The function was organised by Mrs. 11. Forbes. The theatre was tastefully decorated with streamers interspersed with greenery. Miss Lillis' orchestra provided the music for tnc dancing, assisted by Mrs. Warlich. Reference to Mrs. Forbes' efforts in training the children for many weeks past was made by the Rev. F. 15. Dobson in extending congratulations to her for the success of the entertainment. Opportunity was also taken to present Mrs. Warlich with a bouquet in appreciation of hor assistance at the rehearsals. A fancy dance was contributed by Miss Peggie Rollett.
An impressive grand march was held, the following judges occupying the stage: The Countess of Orfnrd, Mrs. A. C. Sexton, Miss Seth-Smith, Mr. A. C. Sexton. The presentation of prizes was made by Mrs. Oakes, assisted by Mrs. Forbes, to the following:—Girls, 6 and under: Patty White, courtier. Boys, 6 and under: Lancelot Delves, grandfather's clock, 1; Buster Hughes, All Black, 2. Special: Desmond White, the knut. Girls under 10: Poppy Oates and Noreen White. King and Queen of Hearts, 1; Gwen Ayling, Russian dancer, 2: special, Maxwell H'ood, spring chicken. Boys under 10: Master Hilditch, toy soldier, 1; John Cleave!, cowboy, 2. Girls over 10: Gladys Osborne, a mako of tooth paste, 1; Phyllis Lipsham, "Buy British Goods," 2. Boys over 10: Master Peguero, Pixie Uno, 1; Master Peguero, black budget, 2; special, Phyllis Rogers and Jack Kimber, Amy Johnson and her mechanic.
