YACHTING AND POT-HUNTING.
Sir, —The yachting season is again drawing near, and dissension among the yacht clubs is again being caused by one or two delegates, who disagree with so-called pothunting. Are these men expressing the boat owners' or their own opinions when they say they want a display, in the form of a procession, and not combined racing 011 opening and closing days? As regards pot-hunting, there is 110 such thing among the yacht owners who race their craft regularly, as the following will show. A boat owner is eligible to join as many clubs as he desires, buv before he can race he has to make, not only himself, but all the members of his crew, financial members of all the clubs he has joined. He has also to pay his entrance fee for the .race in each club. Also each club has a different handicapper for the respective classes. Therefore, when, a boat races in_. say, three clubs on a combined clay, lie has three different handicaps. If he can win on these different handicaps, good luck to him. This arguing is not going to advanco the spott, which should be encouraged to the utmost. The present system of holding combined races on opening and closing day has been carried out quite successfully for a number of years, and only in one or two cases has one boat "scooped the pool." If a display is required for the few of the public who do really take an interest in yachting, then give it to them on Anniversary Day, by keeping the boats inside the harbour. This letter expresses thft feelings ol" the majority of mullet boat owners, and also the smaller classes. 1. am a boat owner who has raced for tb«> last five or six years, with very little suecess, but am just as keen as ever. Mullett.
