ASSISTED LAND SETTLEMENT.
Sir, —The interesting correspondence going on in your paper appears to miss the following important points:—(a) That there : s a widespread demand for land, (b) That the self-reliant young settler prefers to get in and tackle an unimproved block, (c) That, generally speaking, there is a preference for Crown lands. (<J) That the ballot system is vexatious, wasteful and too slow, (e) That prospective settlers, owing to difficulties now encountered, are leaving New Zealand for other lands. N. G- Grjbble.
