RENAMING THE RAZMAK

ANOTHER MONOWAI.

OVERHAUL AT WELLINGTON. PAINTING AND ALTERATIONS. [BY TKLKCRAI'II. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Friday. When the 11,000-tori I'. and 0. liner Razmak, which the Union Steam Ship Company recently purchased, takes lip the running of the Tahiti in the San Francisco service she will have been renamed the Monowai, after fhio of the best-known of the earlier transpacific liners. The Itazmak is expected lo reach Wellington about the end of October from Bombay, and will remain at Wellington until she picks up her new running from Wellington on December 2. While at Wellington the vessel will undergo ;i thorough overhaul, and extensive alterations arc to Ik; made to her third-class accommodation. The vessel was built for the Aden-Bombay trade, and her third-class was designed mainly for Indians.

Other alterations may also be necessary, but they are not definitely known yet. The vessel will also be repainted the Union Company's colours.

The Razmak is being renamed after a well-known transpacific and intercolonial passenger steamer. The old Monowai, which was built in 1890, did 30 years' service befoic she was laid up at Port Chalmers. Six years later she was purchased by the Gisborne Harbour Board and in November. 1926, was sunk to form part of a breakwater at Gisborne Harbour.
