ATTITUDE TO AIRPORT.
NO PROMISE BY COUNCIL
While recognising tho necessity for an airport for Auckland in tho near future, the Otahuhu Borough Council has decided tlmt it cannot commit itself to any financial liability at present.. This decision was reached at a meeting oil Thursday evening, when delegates submitted a report on tho recent conference of local bodies.
A proposed by-law that motor vehicles be prohibited from overtaking similar traffic in tho borough is to bo referred to the traliic inspector for report. A suggestion that a sickness insurance fund for permanent employees be seL up was referred to tho Legal and Finance CV mini! tee for report. The council decided to oppose the application of the Passenger Transport Company to tho Auckland Transport Hoard for permission to delete the 8.15 a.m. bus from its daily service. The Papakura Town Hoard advised that it did not propose to lake any action, regarding the proposal to have tho paleyards at Westfield moved south of Otahuhu.
On rceipt of advice that the Mount Wellington Road Hoard had agreed to tho classification of Sylvia Park Uoad as first class, it was decided to approve tho re-classification of Portage Koad from third-class to first-class.
