LETTUCE FOR LOOKS. There is nothing moio coolftg for the blood than lettuce leaves. A few crisp leaves, sprinkled with olivo oil and a few drops of lemon-juice, eaten daily, will keep tho blood cool and prevent "heat spots" and other complexion blemFor whitening and softening the skin, for removing tan and sunburn, there is no better preparation than lettuco cream. To make this, use ono or more heads of lettuco, and scald them with boiling water. Allow to stand for fifteen minutes, then pour off the water, place the lettuce in an earthenware bowl, and pound to a pulp, then strain through a cloth. Now put ono ounco of white wax and one ounce of spermaceti in an earthenware jar, and stand in boiling water until melted. Add four ounces of pure .almond oil, and mix thoroughly, then add the lettuco juice in small quantities, beating tho mixture with a silver fork. Put into small jars for use. As a sleep inducer, eat one lettuce leaf after getting into bed, and you wall soon begin to feel drowsy, and will sleep like the proverbial log!
