A FUTURE BATTLESHIP.
This is my idea of a future battleship. As seen by tho illustration ifc is like a large pair of bullets placed end to end. On each side aro flanges which widen toward the stern. Thero is also a keel which grows larger near the stern. Thero is no keel near tho bow for a third of tho vessel's length. When travelling at top speed, about 50 m.p.li., that third would be clear of tho water. When turning, tho large flanges and keel would prevent the boat from capsizing. Guns could be carried on tho flanges as shown. Tho dark oblongs abovo tho flanges aro steel-

doors which protect the boats in which" the crew can escape in time of need. The ship carries aeroplanes, as can be seen by the squadron above, and one ready to take-off near the second forward punturret. Tho gas-tighfc doors when closed would save the crew from gas; an airpurifying apparatus being fitted to sup--Ij)v fresh oxygen. With its bullet-shaped lull and rounded or oval deck-fittings and turrets the bullets and shells would bounce off, and the vessel would have great, speed. Carrying 15in. or 18in. guns, it would be a very formidable, unit.
