OBSCENE LANGUAGE CHARGE, MAGISTRATE IMPOSES FINE. "I was too drunk to remember," said Thomas Kelly, aped 34. seaman, when ho appeared in the Police Court yesterday on a charge of using obscene language at Birkenhead on Thursday. Accused pleaded not guilty. Thomas Edward Hallidav, a bus driver, said ho was waiting with his bus at the ferry wharf when accused approached and used the language complained of. He was very drunk and used the language in the hearing of the passengers in the bus. A fine of £5, in default 14 days' imprisonment, was imposed by Mr. ,F. K. Hunt, S.M. A charge of supplying intoxicating liquor to a person under 21 years of age was preferred against William Ryan. Mr. Alan Moody, who represented accused, said he would admit the facts. Sub-In-spector Shanahan said that on July 7 Ryan entered a hotel with his brother, aged 15, and two other men. Ryan bought four bottles of stout, and his brother, who was under age, took part in the drinking. He was fined £1 and costs. "It was a drunken brawl and I think all concerned have been sufficiently punished by coming before the Court anrl losing a day's work " said tho magistrate when Verdi Darloy and Frederick Hayward were charged with assaulting Clifford Andrew Jackson. Dr. J. E. Caughey said Jackson was admitted,to the hospital suffering from a small incisive wound on the right side of tho head. Sub Inspector Shanahan said the case arose out of a disturbance at Hay ward's house. Jackson was injured during a melee which followed a drinking bout. Tho magistrate dismissed the charges.
