SUNDAY ISLAND.
Sir, —In answer to "A Bell's " letter ro Sunday Island, it is the intention of the Sunday Island settlers to make a trip to the island with a view to inspection. "A Bell" says landing on the north-easfc be3ch can only be done in the finest of weather and even then at great risk, f have lived on tho island and have been through the surf some thirty or mom times without a capsizo or any risk. Tha surf is workable in any ordinary weather. The party is not reiving on shipping produce through the surf, but from Fishing Rock landing, which is workable when the surf is impossible. "A Bell" says the rock is two miles away, but does not say from where. If he means the section the party intend to purchase, it is only one mile from tho eastern end. The road over the hills "A Bell" speaks of as taking a tremendous amount of money and labour would not be so costly as ho states. T. have studied the site and consider that . ten men would make a road good enough for two horses and a sledge in about two months. The road starts from the rock, a siding is made up a gully on to the rim of a crater, along the rini down another siding on to a low flat of the section then along the flat to another siding a rise of about 150 ft, to a tableland, along this flat to the end of the section, and the road is completed. In all it is ! about 2* miles through soft volcanic soil, I The surveying of tho road will not be done by an amateur. Expkbieuced.
