NON-PAYMENT OP .'PAXES.'
. SEIZURE OF FURNITURE. . AN UNPROFITABLE SALE. / By Association—Copyright. (Received August 12, 5.25 p.m.) LONDON, August 11. The Egyptian Bureau in London reports that the non-co-operation movement in Egypt led to a remarkablo scene at Tanta, 55 miles north-west of Cairo. Two prominent Wafdists, Abdul Falimy Bey, vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies, and Dr. Kamel, refused to pay taxes, so the Government had their furniture seized and offered for sale at auction. However, there wero no bids at first, notwithstanding the fact that there was a large crowd of people present. Ultimately a prominent supporter of the Government bid £3 10s and secured the goods unopposed. This left the Government still two guineas short of the taxes due.
