STAKES FOR ThE SEASON.

A decision not io reduce the stakes for the nevv season, other than in classic evonts, as agreed' upon last season, was made, by the committee of the Auckland., Racing' Club yosterdayi : when the programmes for 1930-31 and for future classic races were' approved.

The reductions in stakes for classic events, operating this, season for the first timo,. are as: follows:—Great Northern Guineas, from £ISOO to £1000; Great, Northern Derby., from £3OOO to £2500; Royal Stakes, from £IOOO to £7sorGreut Northern St. Leger Stakes, from £IOOO to £750.- These reductions total £I6OO, making the aggregate stakes* for the season £57,050, compared with £58,550 last season, when division races caused the actual prize-money distributed to ba increased to £59,000.

Tho stakes for all handicap events and for classic races other than the four mentioned remain tho same as for last season.
