STOCKS AND SHARES.

THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. BUSINESS STILL QUIET. Business was again very slack 011 the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, only two sales being recorded. The recent steady demand for Government securities continued, but Inscribed Stock, 1932, per cent., was the only Government stock quoted by sellers, and this was taken once at £9B 10s. Offers for War Bonds, 1933 tend 1936, per cents., hardened 2s 6d at £99 2s 6d. Local body and miscellaneous debentures were unchanged. Bank shares showed small fluctuations. Sellers of Banks of Australasia firmed Is at £l2. Offers for Commercials of Australia hardened 2d at 20s 3d. For Now South Wales offers closed 2s 6d higher at £36 12s 6d and sellers quoted 2s 6d less at £36 17s 6d. New Zealands were unchanged. Insurance shares were weaker. Offers for Nationals eased Id at 13s lOd and for New Zealands 3d at 41s 3d. Sellers of South British quoted 6d lower at 59s without response from buyers. Loan and agency and coals were quiet. In gas Aucklands were wanted 5d dearer at 23s Bd, sellers increasing their price to 24s 3d. New Zealand Breweries had sale 3d less at 50s 9d. Only small interest was shown in t-ho miscellaneous section. British Tobaccos •wero inquired for 3d easier at 375. Bycrofts were wanted 6d firmer at 335, sellers maintaining their quotations at 355. Morris-Hedstrom shares reappeared on the market, being offered at 23s 6d without response from buyers. In mining Wailii Grand Junctions were in steady demand at 2s and Mount Lyells 3d less at 225.

AUSTRALIAN CATTLE EXPORT. TRIAL SHIPMENT TO JAPAN. A Japanese cattle buyer was recently at Darwin, Northern Australia, arranging for a trial shipment of 600 head to Japan. It is stated that if the trial shipment is successful, a 7000-ton steamer will be commissioned, running alternately from Darwin and Wyndham.
