MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS.
Sir.—l think it is about time that Mount Roskill ratepayers woke up to the fact that some of the rates they pay should be spent on the roads, as when the commission was held to join the city, it came out in evidence that over 30 per cent, of the rates were spent in and about the Road Board's offices and overhead expenses. Take for instance Hillsborough Road. The Rond Board receives an enormous amount in rates on this particular road and it is in an outrageous condition. Hardly a day passes without some motorist breaking a spring or some minor accident occurring. It is wellknown that Mount Roskill is noted for having worse roads than any other district within 100 miles of Auckland. Mount Albert Road alone is one instance of this scandalous condition, notwithstanding that it is a highway road. Already three polls have been taken to have the road concreted, which was undoubtedly an expensive undertaking. I am of the opinion that Mount Roskill should join either with Mount Eden or some properly governed borough. Ratepayer.
