SOUTH ISLAND RAILWAY.
ROAD WORK AT ROTORUA.

The Minister of Public Works, Hon. 13. A. Ransom, announced to-day that construction of works at. the northern (Parnassus) end of the South Island Main Trunk railway would be commenced at the beginning of next week with a number of married men from C|)Wstchurch, and that lie had also issued instructions for the staff of workmen at the northern end of (he lino.to bo increased next week by Die employment of married mot) from Christcliurch. Tito Minister also stated that authority had been issued for threo road works in tho Rotorua district and the clearing of some land attached to the Government sanatorium. These works will provide employment for about 160 men, including 100 married men wjio ara to be engaged from Auckland. Two of the roads are being constructed for (lie purpose of providing improved to an area of numiceous land, which is tu be developed by the Government and then thrown upon for settlement.
