A PAUPER MANUFACTORY.
Sir,—l see that legislation for tha loafer is still the order of the day under the Labour Government of Britain. _ Tho latest development is, that even if it can be proved that the claimants to unemployment benefits .is not endeavouring to obtain e.mplijyment, that shall be no bar to his receiving payment. So the professional loafer —to whom work is anathema—can still impudently demand unemployment relief, the funds to supply which are wrung from the workers! These men have votes, their number is increasing, naturally. This huge army exercise the vote in favour of those v> no will .'increase their dole and encourage their idleness, ami so the vicious circle grows. Hence we have tho pitiful spectacle of a so-called "Labour" Government, largely returned and supported by an element which refuses to labour at all, and this latest development of pauper manufacturing receives a large measure of support from the Liberal Party. T'ia "Labour Party" is ruining Australia. The moral is, let New Zealand beware of entrusting her destiny to such leaders. 251, Parnell Road. J. Thokses.
