MISSING NORWEGIANS.
AIRMEN FROM THE KOSMOS. BYRD ASKED TO SEARCH. OSLO, Jan, 27. The manager of the Norwegian whaling factory ship Kosmos asked RearAdmiral Byrd whether, if he was proceeding home, he could possibly pass the Balleny Islands, and search for the Norwegians, Lief Lier and Dr. Schreiner, who left the Kosmos on December 29 in Lier s Moth plane for a flight over Antarctic waters, and who have not been heard of since, in spito of the fact that 16 whuleis made a search for three days. Rear-Admiral Byrd has consented to do this, if there is sufficient coal.
The Balleny Islands are a group of five islands, discovered by the whaler Balleny in 1839, almost under the south Polar circle, in the meridian of New Zealand.
