BANKS AGAIN WEAKER

A weaker market for banking investments existed on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when lower levels induced fairly active buying. The giltedged section was quiet with slightly easier offers for local body debentures. The Auckland Harbour Board 1937, per cent, issue changed hands at £96. In the banking section tho majority of the listed issues were available at slightly cheaper rates than on Monday. Commercials of Australia were done twice unchanged at 22s 9d, with the selling quotation 6d cheaper, at 235. A.similar accommodation movement occurred in New South Wales, which were dealt in 12s 6d lowqr at £4O, again at £39 17s 6d, and finally at £4O. Moro were sought 5s firmer than Monday's level at £39 15s, sellers reducing their limits from £4l to £4O 2s 6d. New Zealands eased Is to 55s 6d, and were lifted again to 55s 9d, which was sellers' closing quotation. Nationals of New Zealand were done unchanged at £6 6s. In insurance South British made a current-price sale at 59s fid with which requirements were satisfied.

Quiet and easy conditions persisted in other sections of the market. Auckland Gas wore secured Id lower at 24s 9d. In miscellaneous British Tobacco, which were done at 41s 9d, recorded a decline of 3s 3d on the last sale on tho local Exchange which took place on January 15, and a drop of 3d upon recent transactions in Christchurch. Inquiry in the section remained restricted.

In mining Moanataiaris continued to claim favourable support and tho fully paid issue at 2s 2d had sale 4d easiei than the highest level touched last week. Two parcels of Waihis changed hands 3d cheaper at 13s 6d, and Mount Lyells gave way 4d with a deal at 34s Bd. The Exchange will be closed to-day, Anniversary Day.
