WEST OF QUEEN STREET.

DEPUTATION TO THE MAYOR. An effort to capture the interest of the Auckland City Council in its project is being made by the West of Queen Street Development League. A deputation of 18 members waited on tho Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, and the town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brighom, yesterday to disouss the league's proposals informally, prior to presenting a detailed scheme to the City Council at an early date. The director of the association, Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, indicated that the purpose of the association was to assist in every way the development of the area bounded' by Queen Street and Nelson Street between Cook Street and the waterfront, as a wholesale and retail shopping district. The interest. and cooperation of the members and officers of tho City Council were v essential to success, and were, therefore, sought. The deputation later reported that it had been well received, and that arrangements' had been made to present detailed proposals for the development of the area to the council at a later date.
