TAXATION RETURNS.
PENALTIES FOR LATENESS. A number of prosecutions for failure to furnish returns of income at the proper time were heard in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. Mr. Meredith, who appeared for the Commissioner of Taxes, said that the cases involved no evasion, but the department had been put to a great deal of trouble. Fines of £2 and costs were imposed on L. De Vere, A. 0. Frankhain, S. Harrison, G. K. Hansard and E. Perkins.
