NEED OF EXTENSIONS.

WORK OF SCHOOL COUNCIL.

The opinion that there were already enough pupils attending the one school, and that the question of extensions called for early consideration, was expressed by Mr. H. S. W. King, chairman of the board of managers of the Seddon Memorial Technical College, at a meeting of ..the board yesterday afternoon. Mr. King said there were already over 1000 day scholars attending the. school, and in his opinion the number should not be allowed, to increase to any extent before further premises had been acquired.

The annual balance-sheet was received from the Auditor-General without "tags," but with a comment that in the opinion of the Audit Office the credit balance of the profit and loss account had been overstated, in that no charge had been made for depreciation. It was decided to give tho matter consideration when the next balauce-sheet was drawn up. At the request of the principal, Mr. G. J Park, a further grant of £IOO was approved in respect oi tho electrical laboratory. A letter was received fro/n the Auckland Printing Trades Apprenticeship Committee commonding the high standard of Work being done by the printing trades classes at the Technical College, and expressing confidence that tho training would be a great asset to tho pupils in becoming efficient journeymen. Appreciation of the services c of the college in affording opportunities to studentteachers to roceive special training was expressed in a letter received from the Education Board. Tho board stated a leLter of appreciation of the college's sorvicos had been received from the principal of the. Audlilond' Training Colleger ' Tlje chairman reported that he had boen present at a meeting of tho school council and on behalf of the board he had expressed its appreciation of the work being, done by the students who, wero elected to that body. He had assured them' that what they were doing must be of great value in improving the tone and tho reputation of tHq school. The school council is composed'of equal numbers of senior boys and, girls, who are elected by their school fellows at the beginning of each school, year. The principal supervises their work," but allows thom to act entirbly as; a self-governihg body, with as little interference as possible from him as principal; They control funds which are raised by tho .pupils in aid of any matters which are for tho well-being of (ho school, and have at present a substantial bank'balance.
