METEOROLOGISTS MEET.
CONFERENCE IN LONDON.
NEED OF ORGANISATION. British Wireless. RUGBY, An?. 23. A conference of meteorologists from all parts of the Empire was opened in London to-day. The Under-Secretary for Air, Mr. F. Montague, in bis opening speech, remarked upon the official importance of meteorology. In regard to aviation, he said the need for adequate meteorological organisations to meet the requirements of air transport services had become a matter of vital importance on the Empire air routes now in process of formation. An important part was also played by meteorology i" other directions, such as in the service of shipping, the assistance of agriculture, and in the naval and military services.
It was manifestly clear that an exchange of information, the co-ordination of plans and the perfection of the organisation of the meteorological services in these interests were of fundamental importance to the Empire. The possible services of the Empire to the world in this regard were also surely of vast importance. The true ideal of Empire was service. It was in its service to civilisation and peaceful development for the benefit of the whole human race that our great Empire was to be judged.
