SEVERE ELECTRIC SHOCK.
ENGINEER ON A POLE.
COLLAPSE IN LIFEBELT.
[Ui' TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
TE KUITI, Tuesday
Serious injury and a narrow escape from death was experienced last week by Mr. F. Harvey, engineer-manager of the Wairere Power Board. Mr. Harvey came in contact with a live wire when putting in a new transformer near the headworks of the Wairere power station. He was working at the top of a pole at the time.
Apparently Mr. Harvey touched the wire with his head, and thus received a shock. He collapsed unconscious in the lifebelt in which he was working. There was a hole about the size of a pea burned through his hat and a burn on his forehead over 3in. in length. Mr. McKenzie witnessed the mishap and went to Mr. Harvey's assistance. He steadied the injured man until Mr. Horton, service motor-driver, arrived. After considerable work Mr. Harvey was lowered to the ground. Dr. Eva Hill rendered first aid and the injured man was taken to Piopio, where lie is reported to bo making satisfactory progress.
