GIRL RIDER'S DEATH.

HORSE FALLS ON ROADWAY. __i EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WANCrANUI, Tuesday. An inquest concerning ilio death of Ethel Elizabeth Kyland, aged 16 years, who died in hospital yesterday morning through injuries received as a result of a horse falling 011 her in Poutini Street on Saturday, was opened to-day before Mr. .T. 11. Salmon, S.M., coroner.

Maurice Moran, jockey, said that on Saturday he was in Jellicoe Street with a harness marn which he was taking to a paddock. Tho maro had a cover and licad stall, with a small pieco of ropo attached. The girl came up to him and said she would lead tho horse. He gave her the ropo and wstifc into a paddock close by to get another horse. When he returned ho saw her riding down Jellicoo Street. Tho horse was trotting and it turned into Poutini Street. Witness followed and, on reaching Patapu Street, lie saw a crowd gathered at the corner. Ho learned that tho 'torse had fallen and ho saw that tho girl had been injured. Verna Doris Beauchamp said she saw tho girl coming down Patapu Street on tho horse. There was no bridle or saddle 011 tho horse. Witness was of opinion that tho horso bolted with tho girl. When tho animal reached Tinirau Street it turned to tho right and went on to tho bitumen and slipped. It fell 011 its right side. Tho girl fell on the bitumen and tho horso fell on top of her. Tho animal then got up and dragged her across tho road on to the grass 011 her face. Witness attended to the girl,and sent for a doctor. Tho girl was unconscious and tho doctor ordered her removal to tho hospital. Tho inquest was then adjourned await' ing the doctor's ovidenco..
