Conditions were very unpleasant for training operations at Riccarton to-day, when a cold south-west wind was blowing across the course. Rain which fell in the early morning fortunately cleared off Bliortly after work commenced, but tho track became heavier as the work proceeded. The outside of the trial grass was available. There wns a fuir amount of galloping but times woro generally slow.

Historic was ono of tho first out and easily beat Otairi, a bad track worker, in 1.23 2-5. This performance did not teem good at the time, but it compared very favourably with later gallops over tho distance. Full Feather finished better than Sudden Storm nt the end of six furlongs in 1.2-14-5. Doi Do Val was stopping over the concluding stages of a five-furlong task in 1.7 4-5. Kaiti went better than Gold Cure throughout a useful seven-furlong taking 1.35 4-5. Novar strode over a mile in 1.5-1. Honeycomb and Juniper were responsible for an attractive effort over four furlongs in 52 3-ss.

Horotnea, and Wiltshire traversed a mile comfortably in 1.55. Elysianor beat Glenrowan over an easy five furlongß in 1.12.

Malmsey finished well clear of Glyn Dim, with Rod Boa tailed oil. after covering sis furlongs in the good time of 1.23 1-3. The first-named was slow to begin nnd rove h:;r companions an npprecinble break over the first furlong.

Master Clements and Chesterman \*ere associated over six furlongs in 1.26. Chesterman is allowing improved condition. Tetrarchatc and Catoma went steadily over six furlongß in >.34. Whalsarite md Killute covered tho same distance in 1.26 4-5. Bizarro encompassed a round in 1.52 3-5, running the last six furlongs in 1.28 3-5. Ttikunoa and Lady's Boy spurted throe furlongs in 425. Bonnie and Mountain Guide were associated over five furlongs in 1.10. Sulla broke away ill front of Diamond Queen and led her over four furlongs in 508. Tanoriri and Wild Country covered o, round in 1.51 3-5, Tnneriri working well. Otranto pleased by running six furlongs in 1.22. It was a smart effort for ono in her class. This mare is difficult to control in her work, as she has developed a habit, of bounding. Though it is not so pronounced as formerly, she is difficult to train on this account. Palmares strode along for six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. Odin aud Tho Lover worked nicely over a round in 1.52 3-5. King Emerald hit out freely tn negotiato a round in 1.52. Wellnie, looking well, easily ran six furlongs in 1.20 4-5. TWO-YEAR-OLD TRACK. Puriri Park and Eritisli Princess spurted two furlongs in 23 l-3s. Shortly afterwards Sileno mid Hampton Park came out and dashed over tho same ground in 2G 1-53. THE JUMPERS. Abbott's Delight (Burgess) jumped four hurdles cleanly and afterwards worked soundly on tho sand. Zano Grey (Duggnn) pleased bettor than Chelone (A. McGregor) in a schooling bout over four hurdles. Tho Martou Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will bo held on Wednesday and Thursday, September •! and 5 Nominations for ail events close on Friday, August 10. at 0 p.m. On the second day a two-year-old parade will bo held before tho opening n.ce. entries for which will close on acceptance night, Tuesday, August 27, at 9 p.m. The Martou training tracks are lcporled to be in exceptionally cood order, and trainers have been able to work tlit-ir charges on the grass tracks without missing a day during the winter eeason.
