Estimates for the financial year, 1929-30, were placed before the Waiihi ! Borough Council at its first monthly meeting last evening. The total revenue * from all sources was estimated at £21,351 ./ Is: 6d, and the expenditure at £21,457 Bssld,. including an overdraft of £l6B 3s i 2d, on April 1, 1929, leaving an antici- ■■ paled debit balance at March 31, 1930, of > £lO6 7s 2d. The chief item on the expenditure side is £10,485 for maintenance, j wages and replacements in the town. In moving the adoption of the esti- " mates tJao Mayor, Mr. Wallnutt, saiid _ the only variation of moment on last * year's figures was the proposal to :in- _ crease the price of gas to consumers by Is 2d per 1000 cubic feet from 9s 3d to-, 10s sd. • This was necessary owing to c. the substantial losses made by the ■ <le- » partmenti for some years, largely through ! leakages in.faulty mains. A suggestion that concessions should be granted to largo consumers was de-' ■■ feated and the increase agreed to. The estimates were then adopted.
