GIPSY MURDERERS.
CZECH BAND ON TRIAL. CONFESSIONS OF CANNIBALISM. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. PRAGUE, May 22. A sensational trial of 17 men and two womc'i has been begun at Kascliau, Czecho-Slovakia. Tho accused arc members of a gipsy band. They formerly terrorised Moldavia and murdered men, women and children on the smallest provocation.
The total number of victims of the band is not known, but the prosecution has traced dozens of murders, including some which involve charges of cannibalism. Alexander Filke, leader of tho gang, confessed that he had participated in cannibal orgies for two years. Other gipsies admitted that they ate human flesh when they were suffering from privations.
References to cannibalism wero suppressed at the preliminary inquiry, but revelations are expected at the trial. Only the principals in the case and lawyers and journalists have been admitted to Court.
