THE OFFICERS' CLUB.

OPENING NEW PREMISES. MANY INTERESTING PICTURES. The Auckland Officers' Club will open its new rooms in the Queen's Arcado Building, Customs Street East, this evening, when the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, will be the guest of the club. The president, Lieut.-Colonel T. H. Dawson, will preside. The new club-rooms, which are among the most spacious in Auckland, comprise tho whole top floor of the building.' A special feature of the premises is the excellent lighting of the rooms, windows occupying over half the wall space, while a line system ot electric lighting has been installed. The floor has been subdivided into a number of rooms, comprising a well-equipped billiard room, with fullsized table, a reading room, a social and card room, and a luncheon room. Included in the club's possessions which adorn the rooms are a number of interesting mementoes of the war, including the coat of arms of the famous Cloth Hall at Ypres, which was presented to the club by Captain Percy Salmond. Hanging at the entrance are the colours of the Auckland Regiment, which were superseded by the new colours presented to the regiment a month ago. There is mounted beneath these a brass plate, on which are inscribed the names of the members of the club who fell in the war. Along the walls of the rooms are hung many pictures of note, including a full set of the paintings by Mr. H. MooreJones of tho scene of the landing at Gallipoli. These were presented by Colonel J. R. Reed. There are also other series depicting typical scenes in France and Palestine, while a number of old prints show such .historic scenes as the presentation of the first V'ictoria Cross by Queen Victoria and battles in the Crimea. Several of these are of considerable value. A record of the Auckland Regiment is provided by photographs of a number of tho first officers, while reproductions of all tho commanding officers hang on the walls. In addition there are many other fine photographs, most of them signed, of other noted leaders of different units which fought with distinction in the war. There are also photographs of many of the past Governor-Generals.
