Mr. Walter Beid, who has been elected chairman of the Whakatane County; Council for the nineteenth year in sue* cession, has been a member of the council for 26 years continuously. During that timo ho has missed oaly one meet-' ing, which was occasioned by a visit to , Wellington on council business. Whoa Mr. Ileid joined tho council its aunuat revenue was £535. This has gradually increased, and last year tiie council's turn* over exceeded £4S,(XX).
