THE ENGLISH CINEMA.

GREAT STUDIO ACTIVITY. The Elst'ree Studios of British International Pictures aro at present probably busier than they have ever been before. There is not an inch of space to spare on the vast floor and six pictures are in the course of production. In one studio Arthur Robison, the famous director of " Warning Shadows," and " Marion Lescaut," is busy on Liam O'Flaherty's dramatic story, " The Informer," in*which Lars Hanson and Miss Lya do Putti play the leading roles. The photography of this production is under the direction of Werner Brandes, who filmed " Piccadilly " for E. A. Dupont.

Manning Hayncs is in tho middle of his film, " Mary Was Love," in which William Freshman, Miss Blanche Adele and Miss Carol Goodner play tho loading parts, arid Castleton Knight is busy directing " The Flying Scotsman," a story built around the famous London to Scotland cXpiess, in which Moore Marriott, Miss Pauline Johnson, Raymond Jlilland and Alec Hurley are starring. In the next great studio, Alfred Hitchcook is directing Miss Anuy Ondra, Donald Calthorp and John Longdcn in tho screen version of Charles Bennett's stage play, " Blackmail." Captain Norman Walker is busy shooting " Tho Romance oi Seville," with Alexandre D'Arcy, Miss Marguerite Allan, Handle Ayrton and Cecil Barry and Eugenie Amami in the cast.

Harry Lachman is directing Monty Banks in " The Compulsory Husband," in which the star is supported by Clifford Heatherley, Miss Gladys Frazin, Reginald Fox, Miss Trilby Clark, Miss Janet Alexander, and Miss Lilian Man ton, an extheatre programme girl, who, according to both the director and star, is shaping extremely, well and gives very great promise.

Several other pictures, including " The Vagabond Queen/' in which Miss Betty Balfour will star, are waiting to go into production directly there is available space in the studios for the erection of sets.
