DETECTIVE STORIES.
Mr. Justice Johnston, writes in the Empire Review: —Despite the honest efforts of a host of literary craftsmen, the perfect detective story has yet to he written. Hitherto the ingredients have been a slight sense of dramatic situation, .1 little knowledge of criminology and police methods, and a nodding acquaintance with psychology and deductive reasoning; but there is always wanting a good working knowledge of those rules of the game which are regarded by the lawyers as the best method of bringing the guilty to justice.
