DARLINGHURST CASE.

JEFFS REFUSES TO SPEAK

COCAINE TRAFFIC ALLEGED

SYDNEY, May 9. Detectives believe that the shooting of Phillip Jeffs yesterday morning after the street brawl on the previous evening in Darlinghurst was the outcome of a fierce underworld quarrel. They suspect that the traffic in cocaine is the evil responsible. Jeffs refused to have his dying deposition taken. The doctors at the hospital hold out no hope of his recovery. Every hour the injured man's condition grows more critical.
