TOURNEY AT TE AWAMUTU.

The 'amateur tournament promoted 'by the To Awamutu Young Men's Institute will be staged next Monday evening at Te Awamutu under tho auspices of the Frankton Boxing Association. The principal 6vent will bo of six rounds for the M. -W. Muir light-weight challenge cup, between Fred Fraei, of Auckland, and Johnny Roper, of Taumarunui. . Other bouts arranged are as follows:—Holmes (To Awamutu) v. Litt (Taupiri), Brain (Frankton) v. McConnell (Frankton), Laskey (To Awamutu) v. Sims (Pirongia), Williams Frankton) v. Carr (Frankton), E. Horau (Te Awamutu) v. Bowler (Frankton). Bennett. (Te Awamutu) v. Haddon (Taumarunui), A. Craig (Te Awamutu) v Mutton (Frankton), W. Craig (Te Awamutu) ' v. Wilson • (Frankton), J. Iloran (Te Awamutu) v. Gage (To Mawhia), Adams (Te Awamutu) v. Cooper (Cambridge). Mr. Gus Venn will act as referee. Three of tho team of American and Canadian boxers who were engaged by Mr. Lean, of Stadiums, Limited, Sydney, called upon Mr. J. 11. Watts, secretary of tho Northern Boxing Association, on Monday while the Aorangi was in port.. They .were Babe Herman, a light-weight who is spoken of highly, Sam Shack, a feather-weight, and Pinky Silverberg, a bantam-weight. All'were inquiring about the prospects of fighting in 'Auckland and New Zealand when their contracts expired in Australia. The twenty-fourth annual report and balance-sheet of the Northern Boxing Association will bo submitted to members on Monday next at the Chamber of Commerce. There is no doubt It has been the most successful season in the history of the association. The profit of £516 Os lid shows tho result of good match-mak-ing. It will % be remembered the association had a deficit of £B9 the previous season. The purses and expenses for professional contests amounted to £2257 10s and £2911 7s lOd for amateur trophies and expenses. The assets of the association now stand at £2668 2s 7d, which places tho Auckland body in a sound position. The membership now stands at 269. The boys of the Takapuna Grammar School arc to bo instructed in the noble art this winter; at least the older lads are to have the opportunity of joining a class which will bo under tho charge of one of the masters.
